England - North York Moors to Scarborough

When Whitby Abbey was re-founded by Benedictine monks they rebuilt a church on this site to serve the parishioners from the fishing port below. Whitby's Church of Saint Mary was therefore founded in the 1100s but most of its interior dates to the 1700s.
